Problem

Premier Prenail Solutions wanted to reduce their reliance on labour and promote growth within. They identified early on that they needed a partner who could supply equipment to meet their brief. The company was launching with a new, purpose-built facility so they wanted to set it up as they intend to go on and allow for future growth.

Solution

Premier Prenail Solutions had a clear set of requirements for what they wanted to achieve in their frame and truss operation. The Spida Machinery Raked Wall Line, Roller Plant, and associated equipment ticked all the boxes.

Raked Wall Line Solution

The Raked Wall Line automates the assembly and simplifies the process of making wall frames.

For Premier Prenail Solutions, this was made up of a number of Spida machines including the:

Such a solution has a number of benefits including:

  • Versatility – can produce both common walls and raked walls from the same machine
  • Automates what is normally a manual process
  • Reduces manual handling and worker fatigue
  • Is fast, accurate and easy to operate.

The Roller Plant Solution

The Roller Plant which was installed, streamlines the assembly of timber roof trusses and allows for multiple set-ups of trusses on the table.

Precut timber components are placed into the jigging along with connector plates, the Preset Roller travels down the length of the truss, rolling the connector pates into the precut timber components creating a truss. This truss is then ejected and sent through a Finishing Roller which fully embeds the connection plates.

Premier Prenail Solutions Roller Plant consists of a:

  • Automated Truss System
  • Steel Roller Press Tables
  • Preset Roller
  • Truss Ejectors and Receivers
  • Transfer Conveyors
  • Finishing Roller
  • Exit Conveyors

Additional Equipment

In addition, Premier Prenail Solutions also had installed a Spida Automated Apollo Saw which is an allrounder when it comes to cutting! This saw is used to cut large and small components for both frames and trusses, making it a very versatile addition to their factory.

The Mini 6, which was also added, provides further flexibility for Premier Prenail Solutions, as this pressing table can be used for smaller trusses, hips, jacks and creepers.

And finally, a number of trolleys for material handling were introduced making movement and storage of timber components, frames and trusses more efficient.

Outcome

Premier Prenail Solutions have high standards for manufacturing and ensure all those they employ deliver to these high standards.

Team members were trained on the machinery and were up to speed very quickly on how to operate the machinery correctly and safely. Having specific operators dedicated to specific machines, has allowed Premier Prenail Solutions to see increased efficiencies.
